Images are one of the most important elements of a website, it helps to convey a message very easily. Whether you are writing a blog post or making a new website, images can help bring life to it. There are hundreds of stock image sites where you will find your perfect image but have to pay for it. For small companies and individuals, it’s not possible to buy stock images.

Luckily there are many sites where you can find free images to use without any restrictions. In this post, I’ll show you places where you can find free images for wordpress blog and websites.

Here is the list in no particular order.

Pixabay

Pixabay has one of the biggest collection and is one of my preferred places for free images. It doesn’t only consist of images but also illustrations, vector images and videos. All images are under CC0 license so you can use them freely. It has an advanced search feature that allows better search results.

Free range Stock

Free range stock is a popular place to find free images and illustrations. They offer high-quality images which can be used for any purpose even commercial. Thousands of registered photographers contribute regularly here so you will get new images frequently. You need to register to be able to download any image.

Pexels

Pexels is another place I prefer for free images, it has thousands of high-quality images and all are under creative commons zero, so you can use them without any worry.

Unsplash

Unsplash is a high-quality site with a huge collection of images. Many industry leaders like Squarespace, Slack, Medium, Trello etc. use images from Unsplash. All the images are free for commercial and personal use. You can use the search or even browse through the categories to find your images.

Free images

Free images have a collection of over 300000 high-quality images which can be used for personal or commercial purpose. You need to sign up in order to download images from freeimages.com.

Life of pix

Life of pix offers many free high-quality photos and all are free for commercial and personal use. Hundreds of photographers contribute regularly to the collection and new images are added every week.

Burst

Burst is a library of high-quality images powered by Shopify. All the images are released under CC0, however, you need to subscribe to download high-resolution images.

Isore public

Isore public has thousands of free images & videos and new one is added every week. All the images are under CC0 license i.e. it can be used freely on personal as well as commercial projects.

Magdeleine

Magdeleine is another free stock image site probably not as big as some of the other sites mentioned here. It does have a very good image collection and has a search feature to find images. The site has images under both CC0 and CC license so check the license before using any images.

Stok pic

Stok pic is another site which provides high-resolution images for commercial use for free. The site has a decent collection of images neatly divided into different categories. The down side is it doesn’t have a strong search feature you better of browsing the categories instead.

Pik wizard

Pik wizard also has a decent collection of free images, but the site lags a bit in its search feature. The site has a unique feature which allows image editing via their online image editing service Design Wizard.

Good free photos

Good free photos is another source you can look into, you can search or browse through the categories. The site also offers various helpful tutorials related to photography.

Stock snap

Stock snap has a host of very high-quality free images with a great search feature. All the images are under CC0 so you can use them for any purpose.

Kaboom pics

All the images in kaboom pics are free to use for any purpose except redistribution. The search feature has some advanced filtering options where you can filter images by orientation, mode, color etc.

Pic jumbo

Pic jumbo is a website by Viktor Hanacek a professional photographer from Czech Republic. This site has hundreds of high-quality images which you can use on your blog, website and even for commercial purpose.

Morgue file

Morgue file has more than 350000 free stock images, contributed by different artists. All images are free for commercial and personal use.

Albumarium

Albumarium is a home of some very good images, all images are categorized under different albums which you can browse or search. Check the license properly before using any images.

Big foto

Big foto has a small collection of images based on different places of the world, all images are contributed by amateur photographers from around the world and are free for commercial & personal use.

New Old Stock

New old stock is a site with vintage images, it has a limited number of images and you need to browse the site to check them, there is no search feature or category as such. The images are free for personal and non- commercial use in some specific mediums only.

Fancy crave

Fancy crave has both free and premium photos, all are distributed in its own unique categories. It doesn’t have a huge collection but is free for both personal and commercial use.

Get refe

Get refe has a host of free images alongside some premium ones, there is no search feature you have to browse the categories. Though, the images are free for both commercial and personal use you need to register to download even the free ones.

Je shoots

Jan Vasek a web designer from Czech Republic is behind je shoots, the site offers some high-quality images and psd mockups. All images are free to use in personal and commercial projects.

Gratisography

Gratisography is founded by Ryan McGuire from USA is a source of free high-quality pictures for both personal and commercial use.

Moveast

Moveast is a site by João Pacheco from Portugal, it has a random set of free pictures taken from his travel journey. All the images are released under CC0 license.

Free stocks

Free stocks offer a variety of images free for commercial and personal use.

Foodies feed

Foodies feed is a source of thousands of high-quality images of foods that can be used for any purpose including commercial. It’s a perfect source for a food blogger.

Free nature stock

As the name suggests free nature stock is a source of nature photographs by Adrian Pelletier. New images are added on regular basis and all are released under CC0 license.

Mmt stock

Jeffrey Betts is the creator of mmt stock which offers a wide variety of free high-quality pictures and videos released under CC0.

Death to the stock photo

For free images, you need to sign up to their list and you will receive 10 photos per month via email. Please read the license type in the website first.

Public domain archive

As the name suggests all images are on a public domain and you can use it for any purpose. It has a very limited number of images with a basic wordpress search feature.

Snapwire snaps

Snapwire snaps provide a wide variety of free images for personal and commercial use.

Epicantus

Epicantus is a blog maintained by Daria, where you will find all the images used by her in her projects. All the images are free for personal and commercial use.

Shot stash

Shot stash has quite a few different categories of images all are free for commercial and personal use.

Styled stock

Styled stock is a feminine stock photography site, offers free images for personal and commercial use.

Photo pin

Photo pin lets you search millions of images from flicker from their own interface. You can filter the search by commercial and non-commercial type but irrespective of usage type you need to give attribution to the author.

Public domain pictures

Public domain pictures is a vast library with thousands of free high-quality images. All the images are released under CC0 but if you want to use them for commercial use as per the website note “some photos do require a model or property release”.

Dreamstime (Public domain)

Dreamstime is a huge premium stock photo site however they do have a public domain image section where you can get images for free. All the images are under CC0 but they do require proper author attribution.

Rgb stock

Rgb stock is home to more than 100k free stock photos. Registration is required to download any images and read their license page before using them.

Free digital photos

Free digital photos have a wide variety of images but you can only download selected images in small resolution and use it with proper attribution. For higher resolution, you need to purchase them.

Stock vault

Stock vault has a huge library of different type of free images and other elements like textures, Photoshop brushes etc. Check the license type before using any images because most images have a non-commercial license.

Ancestry images

The name sums it up ancestry images is home of free historical prints, maps and artifact photos. The images can be used for non-commercial purpose with attribution.

Comp fight

When you search anything in comp fight it fetches hundreds of images from flickr, all images require credit attribution.

Foter

Foter has a massive library of varying type of free images (small to medium resolution). All the images are free for commercial use but need credit attribution.

Every stock photo

Every stock photo is a search engine for free photos. It shows images from different sites and all have different license types.

Image finder

Image finder is another free image search engine, it crawls and displays images licensed under Creative Commons from various stock image sites. Check the license for each image before using.

Flickr (creative commons)

Flickr is one of the biggest resources for images on the internet, you can check the creative commons section from there you can use images freely. Explore by creative commons type and check the license of images before using.

Freepik

Freepik is a source of free and premium illustration, psd, icons and images. You can use free images for both commercial and personal purpose but must give author credit attribution.

Raw pixel

Raw pixel has both set of free and premium images you can download up to 100 images per month for free and all are free for personal and commercial use.

Food shot

Food shot is a source of handpicked free images of foods, all images are released under CC0.
